Welcome to the Expat Life
January 4, 2017
In literally five hours, I will board a Singapore Airlines plane and head to a tiny island in Southeast Asia to start an entirely new life as an expat abroad–just like my father. A part of me still thinks I have been packing for another extended vacation as moving to Singapore for work hasn’t entirely hit me just yet, but I know that once I get there and have to unpack and not repack my three large suitcases and then some, my nerves and excitement will finally set in. When I started this personal blog, I dug way back into my history realizing where my travel bug started–it started when I lived in Singapore with my father while he was an expat there. Who knew I’d follow in his footsteps? I guess that’s the beauty in this.
In 2016, I took almost a full year off work, traveled to thirteen countries, and lived on Lake Como for the summer. Now, I am ready for a new adventure–a new adventure abroad not just as a traveler but as an expat. While I’m not particularly excited to go back to work, I am looking forward to it. I’m excited about the opportunity, the clients, the amazing things I know my team will produce, and honestly, I’m a bit excited to get back into the game and utilize the knowledge I have spent so many years acquiring. I know it won’t be easy, but I am sure up for the challenge!
Aside from work, I’m also really excited to explore more of Asia, Australia, and finally, top of my bucket list, New Zealand! With Bali an hour away, I’m sure I’ll be taking weekend trips there or island hopping somewhere in Thailand or the Philippines. Australia and New Zealand are still a long flight a way but they’re much closer to Singapore than the states, so now’s the time to go! Above all, I’m excited to continue to live out my dreams. Many people go through life wishing they would’ve done this or that–I want to live with no regret, seize every opportunity, and truly live the life God has given me.
